Caitlin | Red Shield Appeal Volunteer
Caitlin is 19 years old and has been a Red Shield Appeal volunteer for as long as she can remember and loves the opportunity to support her local community in a meaningful way.
How many years have you been involved in the Red Shield Appeal as a volunteer?
I’ve been involved with the Red Shield Appeal from quite a young age. Having grown up in The Salvation Army, I’ve been a part of things like the appeal since I can remember. My mum can even recall pushing me in a pram while door knocking for the Red Shield Appeal.
But I’d say it wasn’t until my teen years that I was able to take up more of an active role in serving within the appeal. To give you an idea of how many years I’ve been involved, I’m currently 19.
What is your favourite part about being involved?
My favourite part about being involved in the Red Shield Appeal is witnessing the generosity of others and helping support those who are in need. I’d have to say that my most favourite part is hearing the many stories of how people, from all walks of life, have been touched by the work of The Salvation Army at one point or another. As a result, they continue to support them through giving generously, or through volunteering at Red Shield Appeal time. I am constantly amazed by this.
Why do you think others should volunteer?
I think others should volunteer for the Red Shield Appeal as it is so rewarding to be a part of something that supports those who are in need. Through volunteering in the appeal, you are actively making a difference in the lives of many and bringing hope to the community through the work that is able to take place as a result of the money that is raised.
Why is supporting The Salvation Army important to you?
Supporting The Salvation Army is important to me as I believe in, and see first-hand, the work that it is doing and the hope that it is bringing to people within the community. It is important to me as I want to care for people and see healthy communities built, and ultimately to share the love of Jesus.
Why is supporting The Salvation Army important for the community?
Supporting The Salvation Army is important for the community as they invest in the community through programs and services which enable them to able to meet people at their point of need. They care for people and share the love of Jesus, and in doing so, make a difference in the lives of many within the community.
